The ribbon-cutting event, organized by Laureate Circle, formally marked the opening of a new workspace. However, the significance of that day was much greater than the bricks and mortar of a building. It was an opportunity to stop, think, and honor a journey, resilient at its core, built on trust, full of innovation, and firmly dedicated to creating a greater future through immigration services.
The new headquarters for the whole AscendHSI community is a testament to the organization’s progress over the short span of three years. Moreover, it serves as a symbol of the level of impact that the organization plans to accomplish in the future.
From a Studio Apartment to a Global Organization
Every meaningful organization begins with a vision. Few begin in a place as modest as a studio apartment. For AscendHSI, that was the starting point in June 2023. The company took shape in Chicago with limited resources, a small team, and a clear sense of purpose.
There were no expansive offices or established systems in those early days. What existed instead was conviction. The founding team, led by Vasanthan Ramakrishnan and Lestine Ramakrishnan in Chicago, along with early team members, Prathiba Prabahar and Deepan Prathaban in India, began building Ascend around a simple but powerful belief. Talented individuals deserve greater access to opportunity, guidance, and support.
Growth did not happen overnight. It came gradually. It came through relationships, consistency, and a willingness to earn trust one client at a time. Having experienced those challenges firsthand, she went on to found Immigrants in Corporate, a community dedicated to helping immigrant professionals build meaningful careers and connections. Her message reinforced an important truth: opportunity flourishes when people have access to a strong community and a network that believes in their potential.
Her perspective echoed one of the core principles behind Ascend that success is rarely achieved alone. It is built through guidance, collaboration, and communities that empower people to move forward with confidence.
Guest speaker and immigration attorney Samie Othmane offered another powerful perspective. He highlighted that “talent is global,” but people need the right ecosystem to realize their full potential. He also shared his opinion on the role of AI in immigration, emphasizing that while technology can improve efficiency and accessibility, empathy, trust, and human connection must always remain at the center of the client experience.
